- Tumbleweed has high expectations of its staff members. Our AC's accept the same responsibility of being a friend and positive role model to our campers, helping to provide a quality camp program and ensuring the emotional and physical safety of all children at camp. Becoming an AC is an important commitment. In addition to acting as a role model for campers, AC's are mentors to our Junior Counselors and CIT's.
- AC's are assigned to a group of campers to assist the counselor in a variety of ways. Through the camp experience, AC's will gain important leadership skills and learn concepts involving child development. As AC's gain confidence and experience, they will be given daily opportunities to plan and lead activities.
- AC's will meet with camp directors, staff and peers on a regular basis to discuss camper issues and focus on camp leadership and problem solving. AC's are required to attend pre-camp orientations and two staff meetings during the summer.
- Camp runs from June 23 - August 22, 2008. AC's must work Monday through Friday for ten weeks. There are a few seven or eight week positions available for AC's who have school-related commitments. Priority for these positions is given to returning staff members.
- AC's receive a valuable work experience, a fun and rewarding summer, as well as a weekly salary. The AC application process includes submitting a completed employment application, two reference forms and a release form. In addition, all applicants must participate in both a group and individual interview. Our hiring decisions are based on interviews, references and the applicant's perceived ability to handle typical camp situations in a mature and responsible manner. Tumbleweed is also looking for applicants who posses maturity, enthusiasm, warmth and empathy.
- Tumbleweed promises to provide the guidance and ongoing training necessary for success. Summer at Tumbleweed is not a vacation, but it is a time to have fun outdoors, make lasting friendships and gain a tremendous amount of job satisfaction.
